Dragsters are an exciting method to teach metrics and the design process. Students design and build a prototype and then produce an actual CO2-powered dragster and race it! An illustrated, self-directed student workbook holds the students’ attention as they learn step-by-step automotive-design processes.
The Race Car Book, a $2 value, is included, along with everything required for the dragster. Kits and packs are available in balsa wood or basswood and with or without the polystyrene blank. Note: Includes CO2 cartridge.

Design a shorter, lighter dragster with this kit instead of our regular Metric Dragster Kit. The only difference is that this basswood body blank is about 100 mm shorter than the one in the Metric Dragster Kit. This kit is full of goodies that could give your car the edge: a premium balsa wood blank (very lightweight), attractive chrome wheels, super-fast acetal axles, low-friction axle tubes, and nylon washers.

Each Land Speed Record Assault Vehicle (LSRAV) kit contains a body blank (12" x 2-3/4" tapered to 3/4" with a hole drilled for the CO2 cartridge), foam body blank, four wheels (two front and two back), CO2 cartridge, two screw eyes, four brass washers, two 1/8" axles, one soda straw, and a piece of sandpaper (1/4 sheet). Kits and packs are available with or without the foam body blank and in balsa wood or basswood.
The LSRAV Dragster Kit does not include the student instruction booklet that comes with the Metric Dragster Kit. However, the user guide for the LSRAV Dragster Kit is included. Students use this kit to complete an exciting vehicle design project that culminates in a race competition, much like the Metric Dragster activity. Wide body blanks (3" x 3" x 12") allow for car designs that are closer to production-car proportions.
More emphasis can be placed on car styling and learning the industrial design process than on car performance. The activity can be a follow-up to a clay car design project (clay materials and tools sold separately).
