Dragsters are an exciting method to teach metrics and the design process. Students design and build a prototype and then produce an actual CO2-powered dragster and race it! An illustrated, self-directed student workbook holds the students’ attention as they learn step-by-step automotive-design processes.
The Race Car Book, a $2 value, is included, along with everything required for the dragster. Kits and packs are available in balsa wood or basswood and with or without the polystyrene blank. Note: Includes CO2 cartridge.
Requires a drill, coping saw, wood file or rasp, ruler, scissors, finish, and a race system, sold separately.
Design a shorter, lighter dragster with this kit instead of our regular Metric Dragster Kit. The only difference is that this basswood body blank is about 100 mm shorter than the one in the Metric Dragster Kit. Requires a drill, coping saw, wood rasp or file, ruler, finish, and a race system, sold separately.
This kit is full of goodies that could give your car the edge: a premium balsa wood blank (very lightweight), attractive chrome wheels, super-fast acetal axles, low-friction axle tubes, and nylon washers.
The kit includes the standard supplies: sandpaper, a CO2 cartridge, a pair each of standard and long screw eyes, and a sheet of Pitsco decals. In lieu of the foam blank, the Pitsco Dragster Paint Stand is included. The stand can also be used to display the finished dragster. Wheels may vary. The Race Car Book is sold separately. Requires a drill, coping saw, wood file or rasp, finish, and a race system, sold separately.
Hand each student a box with all the parts for a Land Speed Record Assault Vehicle (LSRAV) and get ready to race. The box can be used as a storage container during construction of the LSRAV. Each kit contains a body blank (12" x 2-3/4" tapered to 3/4" with a hole drilled for the CO2 cartridge), foam body blank, four wheels (two front and two back), CO2 cartridge, two screw eyes, four brass washers, two 1/8" axles, one soda straw, and a piece of sandpaper (1/4 sheet). Kits and packs are available with or without the foam body blank and in balsa wood or basswood.
The LSRAV Dragster Kit does not include the student instruction booklet that comes with the Metric Dragster Kit. However, the user guide for the LSRAV Dragster Kit is included. Requires a drill, coping saw, wood file or rasp, ruler, scissors, finish, and a race system, sold separately.
Students use this kit to complete an exciting vehicle design project that culminates in a race competition, much like the Metric Dragster activity. Wide body blanks (3" x 3" x 12") allow for car designs that are closer to production-car proportions.
More emphasis can be placed on car styling and learning the industrial design process than on car performance. The activity can be a follow-up to a clay car design project (clay materials and tools sold separately).
Realistic wheels have removable hubs that can be painted. Kit includes predrilled balsa wood body blank, CO2 cartridge, long axles, four wheels, four brass washers, screw eyes, sandpaper, straw for axle tubes, and instructions. Requires a drill, coping saw, wood file or rasp, finish, and a race system, sold separately.
If you want to give more of your students the opportunity to design, make, and test F1 cars without registering them as official teams, then the F1 Basic Car Kit is what you need. The kit includes one F1 balsa wood blank, four wheels, one CO2 cartridge, steel axles, sandpaper, screw eyes, and washers. Requires a drill, coping saw, wood rasp or file, finish, and a race system, sold separately.
Prepackaged with enough kits for the entire classroom, this class pack brings the excitement of CO2 racing even where power tools are not available. Includes 32 complete Precut Dragster Kits – eight each of the four designs. Requires a coping saw or work rasp, finish, and a race system, sold separately.
A unique reinterpretation of the CO2 dragster, these kits remove the need for power or cutting tools of any kind. Just assemble the dragsters from the laser-cut basswood parts and then glue, finish as desired, and launch!
EZ Build Dragsters are durable – they handle the same racing conditions as standard dragsters. And they provide a powerful activity for demonstrating force, motion, speed, friction, and acceleration.
EZ Build Dragsters launch on any standard CO2 race system with 4- or 8-gram cartridges and are available in four models – Zip, Zap, Zoom, and Zing – and a class pack that includes 32 complete kits, eight of each model. Each kit includes one 8-gram CO2 cartridge. Screwdriver and white glue required for assembly.
You’ll cruise through this CO2-vehicle activity with our Getting Started package. It brings together all the materials needed to build 25 Custom Cruisers, plus a video, teacher’s guide, and book to help guide you and your class through the process.
The most affordable package we offer for starting a CO2 dragster activity, it features the EZ Build Dragster – ideal for schools that don’t have standard power or hand tools – and a manual start gate with a floor track system.
An inexpensive way to introduce dragsters into your curriculum, this package offers enough materials to build 50 dragsters and the equipment to race them.
Metric drag racing is an excellent way to motivate students while they design, construct, and race their own CO2 dragsters. This Getting Started package includes everything you need to launch your students’ program: materials to build and finish 50 student dragsters, a launching system, instructions, and the Dr. Zoon Dragster DVD Series.
